Hi There! I am Sharan Ahluwalia – The Big Fat Poet.
I am an ideator and a firefighter, who deeply believes in the power of words, self and actions. For me, poetry is the space where truth can be portrayed without any disguises. I have been writing poetry for over a decade and I am deeply passionate about expressions through written words. I envisioned ‘thebigfatpoet’ in 2017 as my stage & pen name, as I dabbled with open mics and poetry recitals in Pune, Maharashtra. In December 2018, I launched it as a single platform to express everything pertaining to poetry & other forms of writing. This vision has now expanded much beyond mere verses, especially as I ventured into the development sector after a four-year corporate career.
Professionally, I started my career with Google India as a juvenile Data Associate and subsequently joined American Express to work on data analysis with their Global Fraud Protection team. After over two years of dabbling with data, analytics and stats, I wished to expand my understanding of cultures and global narratives. I completed my masters in International Studies from Symbiosis International University in 2018. During this time, while working on my thesis in the field of ‘Social Media and Political Activism’, I also worked with two start-ups, WittyPen and Qliktag. Under the aegis of Qliktag (and as a case-study contributor), I co-authored my first book titled, “The Internet of Products” in 2018, which is globally available on Amazon.
After completing my masters and being rendered as a perpetual scholar of IR, I joined the development sector to contribute towards desperate and complex issues plaguing the society, especially involving education, I am currently associated with the E&H Foundation as their Senior Manager for Programs, Communications & Resource Mobilization, delivering impactful stories aimed at refining the education sector and working with the marginalised communities in India. I have experience working with data, campaigns, strategy, project management, impact evaluation, filed research, resource mobilization as well as non profit communications and management. I also extensively enjoy writing and developing case studies, reports, proposals and grants, e-books, poetry, articles, as well as research papers. I am closely involved in the overall implementation of a Gates Foundation grant in partnership with RCRC – a coalition of over 50 NGOs, addressing situations emerging from the ongoing pandemic. Since March 2020, I have undertaken research and relief work to facilitate COVID-19 awareness and psycho-social support. Along with that, we are also facilitating social protection for vulnerable and distressed communities in 17 Gram Panchayats in Shamshabad, UP, working alongside existing structures/stakeholders and engaging communities on the ground.
